Thinking of becoming a Digital Nomad?
It sounds perfect, escaping the mundane routines of home and the office trading it in for working from the beach, the pool, trendy coffee shops and coworking spaces from anywhere in the world. Living on the move sounds free where you get to dictate your own schedule, itinerary and do things as you want on your own terms. However, behind that idea lies the reality of life constantly being on the go. As soon as you make friends and get comfortable in a new routine, you have to pack up, move on and start all over again. Doing it for the upteenth time becomes physically and emotionally exhausting.
When you stop, feelings of loneliness set in, doubts over your direction and questions around how free this lifestyle truly is begin to rise. Where is this all heading? Why do I keep moving on and what is stopping me from putting down roots? Travelling helps us avoid thinking of the deeper issues at play, rather than being the answer. When we investigate further, we might find that the idea of travel and working remotely symbolises an internal tension between our ideal life versus our reality. What are we escaping? What are we searching for?
I provide therapy for you, the digital nomad travelling the world, preparing for the transition to going fully remote abroad, spending your first few weeks away from home, months in and feeling like you are losing your identity, or returning home and struggling to reintegrate. Allow me to be your constant throughout a lifestyle that brings excitement, new experiences as well as existential instability and constant superficial relationships.
Sound familiar...?
The digital nomad life often promises freedom, flexibility, and adventure. You might have imagined working from beautiful places, building a life on your own terms, and feeling energised by constant change. But has the reality felt different at times? Have you ever found yourself feeling unexpectedly low, unsettled, or disconnected, even whilst living a lifestyle that others admire?
Perhaps you’ve noticed a sense of loneliness, despite meeting new people wherever you go. Do conversations sometimes stay on the surface, transactional, connections made on the basis that it can benefit your business or brand, leaving you craving something deeper and more meaningful? You might find it difficult to maintain relationships, whether that’s with people back home or those you meet along the way. Have you ever felt like connections come and go too quickly, making it hard to feel truly known?
Living between places can also bring a strange sense of rootlessness. Do you ever wonder where “home” really is anymore, or feel slightly out of place no matter where you are? Constant movement can be exciting, but it can also be exhausting. Reaching burn out is easier than the hectic schedules back home as you try to balance work deadlines with travel itineraries, visa applications and work setups, you can never quite switch off fully.
Over time, this lifestyle can begin to affect how you see yourself. Have you noticed a loss of direction, or a sense that your identity feels less clear than it once did? You might also feel a quiet anxiety about the future, unsure how long this way of living is sustainable, or what comes next. Going home feels less and less of an option as doing so would feel like a failure not just in your own eyes but in the eyes of others back home.
If any of this resonates, you’re not alone, and there is nothing wrong with you. These are very common emotional responses to living and working across different cultures, environments, and communities. But that doesn’t mean you have to navigate it all on your own.

A Therapist Who Understands Life Abroad
Before becoming a therapist, I spent years living abroad, so I get it. I’ve been there living through life in other countries trying to establish a life whilst ensuring you don’t get lost in it all. Staying grounded is so important when everything is constantly changing around you, having a single consistent space that anchors you can bring things into check, giving you the support you need as you cross borders!
I've experienced the excitement of building a life in a new place, as well as those other challenges: rebuilding routines, maintaining relationships across time zones and navigating questions about belonging and identity. This perspective informs my therapy practice and helps me connect with clients, who are living internationally or working remotely. Therapy can become one of the few stable, reflective spaces in a lifestyle defined by change.
